WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF BEING IN THE CHOIR?
- A choir experience is an excellent way to develop a child's musicality
and singing voice.
- Singing stimulates brain activity. It enhances memory, concentration,
and language skills. Recent studies have shown that singing lessons
increase a child's IQ - even moreso than learning an instrument.
- Singing releases 'feel good' endorphins that provide a sense of wellbeing
and happiness. Along with that, choir performances are a
wonderful way to give joy to others.
- Learning and performing songs builds self-confidence.
WHAT CAN MY CHILD EXPECT?
- A music education that is engaging and fun, as children work on both
new and familiar song material.
- Each rehearsal includes opportunities for gross motor movement and
playing with instruments or props.
- A short book or two will be sung or read each week to develop their
listening skills, and provide a brief time to rest their singing voices.
CHOIR CLOTHES:
- There is an initial cost of the royal blue choir shirt for $25, along with the
registration fee of $108 for 9 weeks.
- These shirts must be worn for performances and dress rehearsals with
black or navy pants or skirt.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL:
- After registration week, practises will begin promptly at 1:20 pm on
Saturdays.
- If your child has had a drink during the lunch hour please make sure
they use the washroom close to rehearsal time. Washrooms are located
on the first floor of Binkley Church.
- Choir practise ends at 2:15 pm. Because of the number of children
enrolled, and the limited floor area outside the music room, dismissal will
proceed as follows: Parents must wait for their children on the first floor (up 6 steps from the parking lot entrance to the building). The 6, 7, & 8
year olds are dismissed first, with me accompanying them down the
stairs to reconnect with you. That way I can oversee the children
meeting up with their parent(s). The 4 & 5 year olds - who have been
waiting with our pianist in the classroom - are then dismissed to the same
meeting area.
REGISTRATION:
- There are three 9 week choir sessions each year - Fall, Winter, and
Spring, with an early registration time for the next session for those
currently enrolled.
It is my pleasure to help develop and release your child's singing voice
through this choir experience!
